Creative Leadership Programme: Visiting Manchester Art Gallery

The third session of the MADE Creative Leaders programme brought our young people together for a creative day at Manchester Art Gallery. It was a chance to explore ideas, get creative, and share honest thoughts about art and what it means to young people today.

The session began with a group discussion about how they experience art in their own lives – where they find it, what makes them feel welcome in creative spaces, and the kinds of art that matter most to them. It was also a great opportunity for everyone to develop their confidence in talking about art, sharing opinions, and listening to different perspectives.

Working with artist Sam Owen Hull, and Education Manager Emma Carroll, the group then took part in a hands-on practical workshop. Inspired by artworks in the gallery, participants created their own 3D work in response to pieces that caught their attention. The activity encouraged experimentation, teamwork, and lots of creative thinking.

Along the way, the group also learned about the wide range of careers that exist within a gallery, discovering the different roles that help bring exhibitions and creative experiences to life.

Most of all, the session focused on creativity in leadership—giving young people the space to share ideas, build confidence, and develop their skills in expressing what art means to them.

A big thank you to the Manchester Art Gallery team for having our Creative Leaders visit!
