Each pair of young people from our different schools chose different experiences that they wanted to share with their peers, and spent some time reflecting on their cultural experiences and on the responsibility of spending the micro-grant.
Read on to hear from the two students from Manchester Communications Academy about having a professional from TV art departments give a career talk and hands-on prop making workshop to over 60 students at their school:

How did you spend the money?
Our teacher had a contact who is a prop maker and worked in art departments for TV and has worked for CBeebies and other TV productions. We invited her to our school where she explained her jobs, spoke about being a prop maker and told us about how you can make anything out of recycling and simple household items. She taught us all how to make digestive biscuits out of Styrofoam and we used Mod Podge and acrylic paint to be the chocolate. We had every Fine Art and Textiles student in Year 10 take part because we wanted to show them how many opportunities art has for them.

Why did you choose to do this activity?
We chose to do this activity because most people in Year 10 were not fully educated on how you can use art in the future and we wanted to show them a variety of good paying jobs that have art involved. We chose to make props to show them how simple and creative you can be with the most basic things you can make in your house.
What areas of creative leadership did your activity cover?
Our activity covered many different areas that we looked over during the MADE Creative Leadership Programme, including: leadership, creativity and collaboration.

What did you enjoy about the activity?
We enjoyed the activity of helping other students in our year with making props which also boosted our creativity. As the sessions progressed, we started making different things with our supplies. At first, we were only meant to be making digestive biscuits, but we had gotten a bit creative and thought outside of the box and we decided to make brownies.

How has your experience as Creative Leaders helped you make decisions leading to this activity?
The experience as a Creative Leader with MADE has helped us both a lot in making decisions. Leading this activity has helped us with our critical thinking skills and collaborating with everyone and getting their opinion. This has helped us to speak out loud and share our experience with making these props because we were able to help them.
