Each pair of young people from our different schools chose different experiences that they wanted to share with their peers, and spent some time reflecting on their cultural experiences and on the responsibility of spending the micro-grant.
Read on to hear from one of the students from Dixons Brooklands Academy about their visit of 22 young people to Manchester Art Gallery:

How did you spend your money?
The event took place at Manchester Art Gallery, where we brought 22 students to look at both the gallery and behind the scenes. For the first part of the activity, we looked at analysing and comparing different artworks and in the second part of the activity, we went behind the scenes to look at some pieces of art through the lens of a curator.
Why did you choose to do that activity?
We decided to look at some artwork behind the scenes because we thought that it was an aspect of art that isn’t really spoken about. Curating art pieces has a lot that goes into it, and we wanted to hear people’s opinions on it as it is something they may not have known about prior.

What areas of creative leadership did your activity cover?
Creativity and Critical Thinking.
What did you enjoy about the activity?
I really enjoyed looking at the different paintings when we went behind the scenes. It was really cool to learn about which pieces we would select to display.

How has your experience as Creative Leaders helped you make decision to this activity?
I think that my experience as a Creative Leader has helped me to look at artwork more analytically. I think that has helped when looking at artwork, because I am better able to formulate opinions on artwork and help others to do so.
