Each pair of young people from our different schools chose different experiences that they wanted to share with their peers.
7 students from the East Manchester Academy visited Band on the Wall to experience a live soundcheck from a professional band, as well as have a tour of the space and learn a little of the history.

The group was met by Alice, Head of Learning and Participation, who took them around the venue, showing them recording studios, practice rooms, and dressing rooms, as well as sharing facts about way the organisations is called ‘Band on the Wall’. (Apparently, this was a nickname from the 1930s when the landlord of the time placed a stage high on the wall of the venue – which was a pub at the time – which was where the musicians played.)
The East Manchester Academy had the opportunity to ask questions and find out more about the youth programmes on at Band on the Wall. This was then followed by the arrival of the band, La Perla, from Colombia, who were performing at the venue later that night. Students got to see the process of a soundcheck, from testing instruments to the performance of songs.

Students chose to do this activity because they wanted to have a professional music experience outside of the classroom. They wanted the experience of seeing a music space outside of school and seeing the process of musicians getting ready to perform.
This activity covered the following areas of creative leadership: collaboration and creativity.
Students shared that they were really excited to see the process of a soundcheck, as well as getting the opportunity to see the dressing rooms where musicians get ready.
